Armed with a loop pedal and whatever instruments he happens to have on hand, John Egenes spins his storytelling and yarns with threads that include cowboys and truckers, bankers and veterans, honkytonks and lost love. He comes at us from a slightly skewed angle, looking at the world through a windscreen full of squashed bugs.
Egenes is a multi-‐instrumentalist and producer who has worked with a range of artists that includes Eliza Gilkyson, Bill & Bonnie Hearne, Tish Hinojosa, Gary P. Nunn, Jono Manson, Jaime Michaels, The Buckarettes. He has shared the stage with the likes of Pete Seeger, Guy Clarke, Lyle Lovett, Nanci Griffith, Townes van Zandt, Lynn Anderson, Jerry Jeff Walker, Greg Brown, Leo Kotke, Iris Dement and Bonnie Raitt and a long list of others.
John’s New Zealand credits include work with Donna Dean, The Verlaines, Marlon Williams, The Bats, David Kilgour, Kylie Harris, Robert Scott, The Eastern, Delaney Davidson, Ebony Lamb, The Tiny Lies, The Sami Sisters, Matt Langley, DelGirl, Anthony Ritchie, Helen Webby, The Chaps, Jenny Mitchell, Tami Neilson, and Bob McNeill. As a producer and recording session musician, his work includes 16 Tui finalists and winners.
